Character Information (for the Stargate Galaxies game) Full Name: Meredith Rodney McKay Nickname(s): Rodney, Mer DOB/Age: April 18th, 1968/40 Species: Human Nationality: Canadian Homeworld/Birthplace: Earth Marital Status: Single Known Relatives: Jeannie Miller (sister), Caleb Miller (brother-in-law), Madison Miller (niece) Occupation/Position: astrophysicist/Head of Science for the Atlantis Expedition Base Of Operations: Atlantis
Appearance PB: David Hewelett Height: 5'9" Weight: 180 Eyes: Blue Hair: Light Brown Distinguishing Marks/Features: A crooked mouth, slightly receding hair.
Background Information Personality: Petty, arrogant, and bad with people -- and fine with that. He has, however, become considerably less so with those he is close to -- at times, he can even be sweet. But for everyone else, he doesn't suffer fools gladly and believes modesty is pointless -- unless he;s trying to impress a girl. History: He was a talented pianist as a child, but at the age of eleven, after being told that he had only clinical ability and no sense of the art of music, decided to pursue math and science instead. He built his first (model) atomic bomb when he was in the sixth grade -- this led to the CIA hiring him for intelligence work. He began attending college (including MIT) at age 16; after earning two doctorates in physics and theoretical maths, he eventually came to work for Area 51, studying a model of the Stargate. After being willing to let the Jaffa Teal'c die in what he assumed was an irreversible Stargate malfunction, only to be proven wrong by fellow phycisist Samantha Carter, he was forced into a two-year stint in Siberia. Later, he helped Dr Samantha Carter dispose of the Stargate when it was going to explode (after arguing with her on hwo to go about it). He was later transferred to the Anicent Outpost in Antartica, where he studied Ancient technology.
From there, he went on to become the Chief Science Advisor for the Atlantis expedition, where he solves at least one crisis a week, meets new people as an ambassador for Earth, deciphers the uses of Ancient artifacts, and develops new technologies of his own. He also pulls double-duty as a member of Atlantis' premiere recon team. The other members of that team -- Lt Col John Sheppard, Athosian Teyla Emmagan, Satedan Ronon Dex, and formerly Lt Auiden Ford -- have become something of a surrogate family to him. he was also close with two former leaders of the Atlantis Expedition, Dr Elizabeth Weir and Col Samantha Carter, as well as his second in command Dr Radek Zelenka, and former (late) chief of medicine Dr Carson Beckett. He has readily accepted Carson's clone as is friend as well, but has also begun to develop a close bond with the new CMO, Dr Jennifer Keller.
He was the first successful recipient of Beckett's ATA gene therapy. He almost ascended himself to death via an Ancient devide. He once acted as a god for a less-advanced people and brought them from early medieval to late renaissance-level technology in a matter of months. He once blew up 5/6ths of a solar system. He accidentally paved the way for the replicators to overcome their own base code, as well as reactivated the part of their programmming that made then seek to destroy the Wraith; this resulted in the replicators killing whole worlds in an effort to starve the Wraith. McKay later helped to destroy all the Replicators and their homeworld. He developed a method by which a puddle-jumper can travel via hyperspace.
His parents are dead, and he and his sister Jeannie didn’t talk for four years when he was initially involved with the Stargate program. He and Carter eventually brought Jeannie into the program in for her theoretical mathematics expertise when they were attempting to develop a new power source to replace their dwindling ZPMs -- an experiment which, alas, did not pan out. (It also resulted in them being stuck with another "Rod", from another simension, for a short time.) He and Jeannie stayed in touch after that, which unfortunealt led to her being kidnapped and almost killed by nanites.
Most recently, he almost died from a parasite that slowly diminished his mental capacity; time will tell whether the new appreciation he gained for his friends and family from the experience will stay with him -- and wether he will act on his confession of love to one Dr Keller.
Currently, he's is working on developing Asgard beaming tech for the 'jumpers.
